• Education: Edinburgh and Moscow Universities. Igor Tamm considered Leonid Isaakovich Mandelshtam (1879-1944) as his mentor in science and life.
• Affiliation: Moscow State University (1924-37); Physics Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (FIAN), Moscow (1934-1971).
• Other achievements: Tamm-type surface states (1932), the exchange nature of nuclear force (1934), Tokamak type of nuclear fusion reactor (1950, together with Andrei Sakharov).
